Dinamik Ruang Siber dalam Gerakan Reformasi di Malaysia
Tan Lee Ooi

Publisher: Penerbit Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia

Year: 2010

ISBN: 9789679429039

213 Pages

RM35.00

The management of water resources in developing countries poses numerous challenges and it a holistic approach is required to manage the water resources. An effective management of water resources required full participation from the various stakeholders. The World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) held in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2002 emphasized that water resources should be managed at basin-level and should be conducted under the principles of good governance and public participation. River basin constitutes a unique management unit for IWRM implementation as it is delineated by natural boundary.

Therefore, Integrated River Basin Management (IRBM) has been recognized as the subset of IWRM. The UKM IWRM Research Group has been actively involved in this 1st Round Table Dialogue (RTD) with stakeholders from Langat River Basin and Pahang River Basin. It aimed to seek inputs and comments from the stakeholders on the research’s group direction as well as to strengthen the research cooperation and collaboration with various stakeholders from the government agencies, NGO’s, CBOS and private sector. This publication therefore reflects the requirements of key stakeholders involve in water sector.

Malaysia, with about 60% total forest cover, has the potential to play a significant role in the development of Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) related carbon mechanisms. Hence, the country needs to formulate a provisional national position for effective participation in future negotiations. For this purpose, the National Workshop on REDD 12 March 2009 in Kuala Lumpur was jointly organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE), Forestry Department Peninsular Malaysia (FDPM), Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) and also Institute for Environment and Development, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (LESTARI-UKM).

LESTARI-UKM is proud to support the Ministry by documenting the outcomes of the Workshop. We hope that this document serves to enhance understanding on REDD and facilitates the process of developing national positions on the issue.

Deep in the Jungle

Liu Jun (Translated by Chia Sze Soon)

Publisher: Liu Jun Studio

Year: 2010

ISBN: 9789810858216

478 Pages

RM55.00

This book is about the armed struggle of the Malayan Communist Guerillas in the jungle. This issue was very sensitive in the Singapore-Malaysia society and many Chinese writers were either reluctant or fearful to touch it. But I was very enthusiastic and eager to give it a try.

Liu Jun was born in the Malay Peninsula and grew up in a village near the jungle. He knew the jungle and the ex-communists who lived there very well. When he first started writing, he was aware that the jungles and the Malayan communists were rich resources of knowledge which he could make use of for his literary endeavours.

The materials used in this book are merely a small part of what he has in store; the rest will be used for his subsequent series.

Liu Jun embarked on his writing career when he was still in secondary school. His books which have since been published include two anthologies of short stories entitled “Land Loving People” and “The Secret Passage”; mid-length novels entitled “Centipede Hill”, “Returning to my Native Home” and “Selected Short Stories of Liu Jun”. He has also written novels entitled “Polluted Stream”, “Tropical Torrents” and “Conch”.
